MA+CH’s collections are designed + produced in the Upstate New York studio of sibling designers, Marika + Charles Contompasis. The studio’s vast capabilities + dynamic team generate a fully immersive art studio with a family of long-running team members as valuable + unique as the art that comes out of it.
The MA+CH Studio is unlike any other in the US as it integrates the functions traditionally found in several different sites, all under one roof. Its facilities include: a design studio where we create our artwork and spec each piece; a dye shop where we formulate every color in our palette; proprietary machines and patented processes that allow our artisans to individually dye, paint + print each garment; a washing + finishing department that efficiently prepares each item before they are sent to our customers; and a warehouse that stocks inventory + fulfills all orders. The overall result allows us to work efficiently + reduce our impact on the environment. learn more
Marika + Charles have been working together developing collections of women’s art-focused fashion since 2002, and most recently expanding application of their refined techniques to include textile art + design for decor. They combine years of experience in women’s knitwear, and textile design + printing for each item MA+CH produces. Both Marika + Charles attended the Pratt Institute in NYC and went on to successful careers before combining their talents in 2002.
Marika has exhibited in the Smithsonian, MoMA and LA County Museum to name a few, and is an included artist in the Metropolitan Museum of Art permanent costume collection. She is also the recipient of a National Endowment of the Arts Award. Her collections have been sold by prestigious retailers including Barney’s New York, Fred Segal, and Bergdorf-Goodman.
Charles’ passion for fabrics and art led to a career in textile design and production. It began with original hand paintings under the name Keryakos and grew to include building a state-of-the art textile printing and dyeing complex. His focus on creating new printing techniques, including Phly-Dye®, has led to several patents and trademarks. Today, MA+CH uses his original methods along with elements of traditional printing technology to produce its collections.
It is the unique collaboration between artists Marika + Charles, alongside the studio’s vast capabilities that makes MA+CH unlike any other in the world.
MA+CH also greatly benefits from the contributions of another sibling duo, Daisy + Duke. The sweet, playful canines boost moral, inspire hijinx and provide comic relief to the entire company.
